“She was a daughter, a friend, a neighbor, a pet parent and a woman full of dreams,” Maybery’s family said in a statement police released for them Tuesday. “Shamieka didn’t come from wealth or privilege. She was a Black woman from the projects of San Francisco. But her life was no less valuable than any other. We’re asking the public not to forget her. Say her name. Share her story. Help bring justice to a woman who can no longer fight for herself.”

Early in the investigation, police discovered Mabery had obtained a restraining order against Bell over an act of domestic violence that occurred in San Francisco County, authorities said. He was arrested in June 2022 on suspicion of domestic violence and making criminal threats, records show.

Police asked anyone with information on either case to contact them at 510-238-3821.
