From screen to stage
The first North American tour of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” will hit the stage at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts July 8-13 as part of Broadway San Jose’s season.
The show, based on Baz Luhrmann’s film, won 10 Tony Awards in 2021 including Best Musical. As in the film, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” celebrates over 160 years of music, from Offenbach to Lady Gaga. The stage musical features many of the iconic songs from the movie, and also includes recent hits released since the movie premiered in 2001.

Family Festa
The Italian American Heritage Foundation (IAHF)’s 43rd Italian Family Festa, set for July 26-27, will also mark the 50th anniversary of the IAHF. Held at History Park in San Jose, this two-day cultural celebration is free to the public.
The festa will feature Italian food and wine, live music, cooking demos, fashion, family activities, and heritage displays — all reflecting Italian American culture.
Festival highlights include a grape stomp, a wine garden, Roman encampment and swordsmanship demos, An Italian Fashion Show, a children’s zone and a cultural and culinary stage with pizza tossing, genealogy talks and gardening segments.
Live entertainment features the Millennium Orchestra, a Mina tribute, Opera San Jose and tributes to Vince Guaraldi and Louie Bellson.
The event supports scholarships, local nonprofits, and community outreach. Last year the IAHF awarded over $12,000 in scholarships.
