Motorcyclist dies on Livermore freeway

LIVERMORE — A man was killed early Tuesday on Interstate 580 after the motorcycle he was riding went down in a traffic lane and he was struck by some vehicles, authorities said.

A truck that hit the downed motorcycle also caught fire, authorities said.

The man killed was identified by the coroner’s bureau as Ryan Lance, 27, of Livermore.

According to initial reports, the motorcyclist went down for unknown reasons about 2:41 a.m. Tuesday in the extreme right eastbound lane of I-580 near the Isabel Avenue offramp.

He was struck by at least two vehicles and died at the scene, according to initial reports.

His motorcycle was hit by two vehicles, including a big rig truck, according to initial reports. The tractor portion of the truck caught fire, authorities said.

No other injuries were reported.

A Sigalert was issued at 2:50 a.m. shutting down all eastbound lanes while the fire was extinguished and the California Highway Patrol investigation was started.

Two lanes were reopened about 4:30 a.m. and all lanes were reopened by 7:30 a.m. the CHP said.
