Serra’s six-run third inning powers Padres past St. Francis in CCS Division I semifinals

SAN JOSE — When you have a six-run inning, you have a pretty good chance to win a baseball game.

Serra trailed St. Francis by three runs in the third inning at Excite Ballpark in San Jose, and for all intents and purposes, the Lancers were in control of the teams’ Central Coast Section Division I semifinal matchup.

Until they weren’t. Serra wrested the lead away from St. Francis with an epic two-out rally, doubling the Lancers’ advantage.

The teams traded runs in the fifth, but the damage had already been done. Serra won 7-4 and awaits the winner of the other semifinal between Los Gatos and Valley Christian, which was to follow at Excite Ballpark.

Both teams will participate in the NorCal regional tournament next week.
