
HAYWARD – A speeding driver was killed in a crash Tuesday morning near the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge toll plaza, according to authorities.

The collision happened around 7:10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.
A Toyota RAV4 was traveling eastbound on State Route 92 at a “high rate of speed” when it entered the California Department of Transportation parking lot next to the toll plaza and crashed into several parked vehicles, according to the CHP.
The driver suffered fatal injuries, the CHP said. The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will release the person’s identity once it is confirmed and their next of kin is notified.
No other injuries were reported.
Eastbound lanes of State Route 92 were closed following the crash and did not reopen until 10:20 a.m., according to the CHP. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
