Law enforcement officials had launched an investigation after witnesses reported gunfire between the occupants of two vehicles at approximately 5 p.m. on April 17 near Castro Valley Boulevard and Baker Road.
In the course of the investigation, detectives learned the victim had fired a BB gun at another vehicle, prompting the Oakland man to retrieve a firearm and fire multiple rounds in response.
Detectives served a warrant Thursday at the suspect’s residence, where officials said they recovered an illegal assault rifle, two loaded revolvers, and a small quantity of cocaine.
The man was taken into custody and booked at the Santa Rita Jail on multiple assault charges and possession of a controlled substance while armed. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
