Police said that based on a preliminary investigation, a vehicle — investigators have not said what kind — was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Fremont Boulevard at high speed before it collided with a parked and detached semi-truck trailer that was unoccupied on the east shoulder of northbound Fremont Boulevard.

The vehicle driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were damaged and no one else was injured.

The cause of the collision is under investigation and it has not yet been determined if drugs or alcohol were factors, authorities said.

The death is Fremont’s fourth fatal traffic collision of the year, police said.
