Theft by false pretenses, ID theft: A Saratoga resident was contacted through a messaging application, and the suspect ultimately convinced the victim to provide money and a copy of the their driver’s license as part of a cryptocurrency investment scam for a total loss of about $456,000.

Theft by false pretenses: A bank employee reported that a client who lives in Saratoga was being scammed by someone who posed as an employee with a financial technology company and ultimately convinced the victim to withdraw money to buy gold and then provide that gold to a courier for a total loss of approximately $190,000.
Grand theft: At 4:30 p.m., someone severed a copper telecommunications line and stole 30 feet of fiberoptic cable in the 21000 block of Congress Springs Road for a total loss valued at approximately $25,000.

Theft of license plate: Between 11:45 a.m. on May 8 and 2:50 p.m. on May 9, someone stole the rear license plate from a vehicle parked in the 18000 block of McCoy Avenue.
