High school basketball: Napa Valley’s Prolific Prep relocating to Florida

Prolific Prep, the high-profile boys basketball academy from Napa Valley that has been home to 14 McDonald’s All-Americans and NBA talents such as the Houston Rockets’ Jalen Green, is relocating to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the school announced Thursday.

But its winter showcase — held annually in the Bay Area at Contra Costa College — isn’t going anywhere.

“The Crush in the Valley plans to continue to happen, as a homecoming for Prolific Prep each year,” coach Ryan Bernardi told the Bay Area News Group.

Prolific Prep will move into a new state-of-the-art training facility in Fort Lauderdale that school officials say will “rival top-tier athletic centers nationwide” and include “a professional-grade practice court, elite-level strength staff and weight room, modern team rooms, advanced recovery suites, and much more.”

The facility, which is under construction, is expected to be ready for next school year.

Prolific Prep had an 11-year run in Napa Valley, holding its own against other elite academies.

According to its news release, Prolific Prep has won the Grind Session World Championship four times and participated in the High School National Basketball Tournament the past six years.

“This move gives us everything we need — elite facilities, resources to support our student athletes, and a thriving basketball culture — to keep developing NBA-level talent and competing for championships,” Bernardi said in a statement. “We’re building something special in Ft. Lauderdale, and I’m proud to lead this next chapter of Prolific Prep.”

The news release says Prolific Prep will continue to operate as a 100% scholastic program.

Prolific Prep’s winter showcase at Contra Costa College has featured matchups between elite academies, as well as games between high-profile teams that compete under the California Interscholastic Federation umbrella.

CIF schools are not allowed to play academies such as Prolific Prep.

“Details will be shared as available.” Bernardi said about next year’s Crush in the Valley showcase.
