Man stabbed near UC Berkeley campus

BERKELEY — A 23-year-old man was stabbed multiple times Tuesday night on Durant Avenue near the UC Berkeley campus and two suspects were arrested, authorities said.

The victim was in critical condition Wednesday at a hospital. Police have not said where he lived or if he was a Cal student.

The stabbing happened about 11:39 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of Durant Avenue, a popular late-night entertainment area about a block from the university campus.

Dozens of people were in the area when the stabbing happened.

Responding officers provided immediate medical aid to the victim before he was taken to a hospital.

One suspect was quickly arrested at the scene, police said. After a brief foot pursuit by officers, a second suspect was also arrested.

Police have not released a motive yet for the stabbing nor have they provided any additional information about the suspects, including whether they know the victim.

The case continues to be investigated by the police homicide bureau.
